⚽ Ambispace Creating Inclusive Sensory Matchday Experiences at Doncaster Rovers

Sensory Nook and Sensory Space Doncaster Donny Dog at Doncaster FC

Doncaster Rovers and the Eco‑Power Stadium are doing incredible work to support neurodivergent fans, ensuring everyone can enjoy matchdays in a safe, welcoming environment. Thanks to their amazing staff and the support of the AmbiSpace Sensory Nook and Zensory blankets kindly provided by Steven from Zensory, visitors now have access to calming tools that help them regulate during overwhelming moments.

Tomorrow, Friday 10th April, Doncaster Rovers Football Club are hosting a Familiarisation Event designed specifically for people who may feel anxious about attending a live match. This session helps visitors become more comfortable with the stadium layout, facilities, and sensory‑friendly options available to them.

We were given a brilliant tour by the amazing Donny Dog and Suzanne Uttley, who showed us the Donny Dog’s Kennel area, the home of the Sensory Nook. This dedicated space offers a quiet retreat away from the noise, complete with games, activities, and the AmbiSpace Sensory Nook for anyone who needs time to regulate.

Doncaster Rovers also provide sensory packs for visitors who may benefit from additional support, ensuring every fan feels valued and included.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience a live football match but had reservations, the staff at Doncaster Rovers will go above and beyond to support you and make your visit enjoyable.

This is what true inclusion in sport looks like.

A Sensory Nook is the answer. Designed specifically as a compact sensory room alternative , it offers the same functional environment using a fraction of the space.

Live theatre can be a powerful, emotional experience, but for neurodivergent people, the noise, crowds, and bright lights can quickly become overwhelming. That’s why the Broadway musical "How to Dance in Ohio" made an important step toward accessibility by incorporating Sensory Nook pods both front of house and backstage. The pods offered the production's actors and audience members quiet spaces to relax in, away from the loud intensity of the theatre. The Nooks accommodated sensory needs in the overwhelming environment.

Recently, we once again celebrated young entrepreneurs from across South Yorkshire at the Primary School Enterprise Challenge 2025 Finals. After sponsoring the event last year, we were thrilled to get even more involved this time around—our MD Kevin Wheatley and Design Team Manager Brendon Markham both joined the judging panel to help decide the winners.

Last week Ambispace managing director Kevin Wheatley had the great pleasure of joining the judging panel as The Barnsley Metrodome buzzed with excitement as young minds gathered for the Primary School Enterprise Challenge 2024. This annual event provides a platform for primary school students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and compete against each other to win trophies, and this year a very special prize for the school of the overall winner.
