Night at the Museum Brings Learning to Life at Doncaster’s DANUM Gallery, Library and Museum

The Doncaster Council Remake Learning opening event, Night at the Museum, transformed the DANUM Gallery, Library and Museum into a vibrant hub of creativity, curiosity, and hands‑on learning. The evening was officially opened by Sean Fearn, Learning Manager for Doncaster Council, who welcomed families to a programme designed to inspire children through interactive education and community collaboration.
One of the standout features of the event was the partnership between Doncaster Library and the National Literacy Trust, who worked together to provide free books, literacy activities, and live readings for children. Catherine Timbers, Early Years Project Manager for the National Literacy Trust, and Tracy Callision, Learning Officer at Doncaster Library, were instrumental in ensuring the evening ran smoothly. Their enthusiasm and commitment to children’s literacy were evident throughout the event.
Elsewhere in the museum, Carrick Holdsworth, Learning Officer at DGLAM, introduced children to the world of 3D printing. Demonstrating how rapidly the technology is advancing, he explained the value of teaching young people how it works and the important IT and problem‑solving skills it can develop. Visitors like Hannah and her daughter Dahlia said they attended because they wanted to explore learning experiences beyond the classroom.
AmbiSpace also played a key role in supporting the event, providing their popular sensory igloo along with experienced staff to answer questions and offer guidance. Families responded warmly to the space. Charlotte and her children described the igloo as “the perfect environment to feel more comfortable if you are overwhelmed.” Ella Green and her son Tommy, who is autistic, said they enjoyed the experience and wished more was being done to support neurodivergent people. Zara, Ryley, and their family called the igloo “absolutely great,” while Seven Studios The Don praised the clear benefits it brought to the event.
The evening showcased the power of community collaboration, with organisations, educators, and local businesses coming together to offer children a fresh, engaging approach to learning. The atmosphere and response seemed really positive, and you can see that a lot of planning and work was put into the event by Doncaster Council and their partners.
