On Tuesday afternoon, AmbiSpace had the privilege of supporting the Carr Fenton Yorkshire Rose College Prom, a celebration honouring around 70 graduating students from a college dedicated to empowering Deaf and SEND learners aged 16–25. It was a joyful, community‑driven event filled with pride, connection, and well‑deserved celebration.

The atmosphere was incredible. Students enjoyed freshly made pizzas from WOOD FIRED Pizza Co and ice creams from T's Whippy Ice Cream Treats, adding to the excitement of the day. Students got to enjoy a variety of activities; dancing, music, karaoke, sports, arts and crafts, not to mention food and soft drinks.

Throughout the afternoon, students and staff were eager to explore the sensory space. The igloo offered a calm, predictable environment, a place to decompress, regulate, and take a breather from the busy prom setting. For many neurodivergent and Deaf students, having access to a dedicated regulation space can make events more inclusive, comfortable, and enjoyable.

Feedback from the college was overwhelmingly positive. Amy Turner, Contracts & Procurement Manager, and Michael Ibbotson, Admissions & Student Experience Director, described the igloo as “a wonderful experience” and immediately recognised the benefits it could bring to future events. Amy Plant, Senior Pastoral Support Team Member, shared how relaxing the space felt for students who needed a moment of calm. Students Lucie and Alfie said they wished they could use the sensory igloo every day. Teacher Sanjay, his interpreter Raja, and students Plamen and Ryan all agreed it was a truly inclusive addition to the prom.

A sensory igloo provides a vital space for regulation, offering quiet, comfort, and predictability during high‑energy events. This kind of support helps ensure that every student can participate fully, confidently, and safely. Inclusion isn’t just about being present, it’s about having what you need to thrive.

We’re honoured to have been part of such a meaningful celebration and proud to support Yorkshire Rose College in creating an environment where every student feels seen, supported, and included.
